COMMENTS
3/7/19-The company was still working to drain the structure. A sample was collected at outfall 002 on permit 1302253 for
lab analysis to ensure compliance with the NPDES permit. The total suspended solids in the sample were 13.6 mg/l, the
iron concentration was 0.491 mg/l and the manganese concentration was 0.065 mg/l. All parameters were in compliance
with the NPDES permit approved for permit 1302253.
3/21/19-Excavation of the material within the structure had commenced. The company was removing the top 18 inches of
refuse from the outer edge of the structure. The company estimated the moisture content of the refuse to be around 18%.
The material had a dry, powdery feel and should not create any issue with haulage.
3/28/19-Excavation of material continues, with the company still excavating the upper 18 inches. The water discharging
from Golden Pond was much less than in previous weeks. The discharge was estimated to be less than 1 gallon per
minute and was clear. Photos of the site are shown below.
