On December 15, 2021, Wise County broke ground on the site development for a 20-acre, over 3MW solar array on previously coal mined land. The clean energy will support the Mineral Gap Data Center. Virginia Energy awarded the county with a $500,000 Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization Grant to assist in site development.
