In February 2020 Virginia's Abandoned Mine Land team declared and emergency. In the Straight Hollow section of the historic coal camp of Dante, heavy rain was pushing mud down a steep bank. At the top of that embankment sat a giant boulder. The team moved fast to protect the people below and permanently improve dangers left by mining that occurred in the 1930's and 1940's. #ourworksnotdone #abandonedmineland #minedlandreclamation #DMME |
