What documents are required to obtain a building permit?

The following items are required for obtaining a permit:

Completed Building Permit Application.
County Tax Map ID Number
Completed In-Lieu Plan
Completed Trade Permit Application for each applicable trade: (1) for electrical, (1) for plumbing, (1) heat pump.
If using or planning to use a private septic and well system, approval from the Health Department.
Health Department approval is needed for additions, renovations, and repairs that may affect your septic system.
If mobile home: size, manufacturer name, year and cost.

1. How long is my permit valid?: A permit is valid for 6 months after the filing date.

2. How much notice is required for requesting an inspection?: A 24 hour notice is required for all inspection requests.

3. Can I apply online for a building permit?: Building permits are available online and may be submitted electronically. Payment for permits are remitted to the Russell County Treasurer's Office and may be made by telephone, using either a credit or debit card.
