1. I sold/traded my vehicle during the year, do I still owe taxes for the entire year?

Yes. Russell County does not prorate. If the vehicle was owned January 1 of the current tax year, then taxes are due and payable for the entire year. 

2. I moved out of Russell County after January 1, do I still owe taxes for the entire year?

Yes. Russell County does not prorate taxes. If you were a resident of Russell County on January 1, you are liable for the personal property taxes for the entire year.  

3. Can I pay my Virginia State Tax in the Commissioner of Revenue Office?

Yes. Only current year taxes can be processed in our office. 

4. What is the deadline to file my Virginia State Tax Return?

You should file your return as soon as possible after January 1 but not later than May 1.
If due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or a legal holiday, you may file on the next business day.
