1. How long is my permit valid?

A permit is valid for 6 months after the filing date. 

2. How much notice is required for requesting an inspection?

A 24 hour notice is required for all inspection requests. 

3. Can I apply online for a building permit?

Building permits are available online and may be submitted electronically. Payment for permits are remitted to the Russell County Treasurer's Office and may be made by telephone, using either a credit or debit card. 

4. What documents are required to obtain a building permit?

The following items are required for obtaining a permit:

• Completed Building Permit Application.
• County Tax Map ID Number
• Completed In-Lieu Plan
• Completed Trade Permit Application for each applicable trade: (1) for electrical, (1) for plumbing, (1) heat pump.
• If using or planning to use a private septic and well system, approval from the Health Department.
• Health Department approval is needed for additions, renovations, and repairs that may affect your septic system.
• If mobile home: size, manufacturer name, year and cost.

5. What are the hours of operation for the Building Official?

Hours of Operation for the Building Official are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
