<div><p>OSMRE offers various service and learning opportunities for students, recent graduates and the public at large to get involved and make a difference. Program offerings include yearlong AmeriCorps terms, VISTA years of service, semester internships, and volunteer opportunities with the Appalachian Regional Reforestation Initiative, just to name a few. These offerings provide different paths for people, of all ages, to learn about the reclamation and restoration efforts taking place on abandoned mine lands.</p>

Interns work in one of OSMRE's offices, gaining professional experience with a federal regulatory agency.</p>

<p>Interns conduct research assignments and participate in projects with OSMRE staff and other interns to build their resumes in their fields of interest. Assignments can involve subjects you expect from OSMRE, like GIS and mine mapping, but can also focus on areas like budget analysis and communications. Internships conclude with a final presentation to OSMRE staff on their work, allowing the interns a great opportunity to showcase their efforts and develop their projects over time. <p>OSMRE’s award-winning <!--{C}%3C!%2D%2D%3Ca%20href%3D%22%2Fabout%2Fdocs%2FJoin_OSMRE_VISTA_Team.pdf%22%20target%3D%22_blank%22%3EVISTA%20program%3C%2Fa%3E%2D%2D%3E-->VISTA program was established in 2002 through a partnership with AmeriCorps VISTA and Stewards Individual Placements. It has since supported over 1,000 VISTAs, helping them make a difference across the country. <p>Over the years, OSMRE/VISTAs have served in Appalachian states like West Virginia and Kentucky, Western states like Colorado and Oregon, and plenty of states in between. Whether it’s driving volunteer engagement efforts to restore a watershed or helping improve access to healthy food, OSMRE/VISTAs are committed to reinvigorating communities in America. Some important information for potential OSMRE/VISTAs:</p>

<li>Biweekly living stipend and benefits are provided.</li>

||
<li>Each term of service lasts one year.</li>
|
||
<li>VISTAs successfully completing service receive an education award or cash stipend.</li>

<p>The <!--{C}%3C!%2D%2D%3Ca%20href%3D%22%2Fabout%2Fdocs%2FJoin_OSMRE_AmeriCorps_Team.pdf%22%20target%3D%22_blank%22%3EOSMRE%2FAmeriCorps%20program%3C%2Fa%3E%2D%2D%3E-->OSMRE/AmeriCorps program has connected participants to direct-service projects in support of OSMRE’s mission since 2012. OSMRE/AmeriCorps members work directly with OSMRE staff and gain professional experience in a federal agency, while developing skills and abilities in fields of their interest. Projects can be geared towards water monitoring, invasive species removal, mine mapping or a number of other areas that OSMRE is involved.</p>
|
||
|
||
<p>The OSMRE/AmeriCorps Program has helped OSMRE develop talent that has contributed greatly to the agency. Since the program’s beginning in 2012, many OSMRE/AmeriCorps Members have served in the agency’s headquarters, regional offices, and field offices performing a number of roles. They’ve contributed to projects that have made a lasting impact on the agency, and some have found full-time employment with OSMRE.</p>
